Green lights all round for new Housing Group

10 February 2008

Shropshire Housing Group (SHG) is celebrating after being awarded the maximum three green lights from the Housing Corporation just months after being established.

The Housing Corporation Assessment, which looked at financial viability, governance and management processes, puts SHG amongst the country’s top performers.

The Group was formed at the end of July with the transfer of more than 2,300 homes from North Shropshire District Council to one of its subsidiaries, Meres and Mosses Housing Association (MMHA). It also includes South Shropshire Housing Association (SSHA), which is responsible for more than 2,000 homes, and Total Response Limited, a property company that carries out maintenance and repairs for the Group.

SHG chief executive Martin Holland said: “This was the first time that the Housing Corporation could assess the Group as a whole and it is a tremendous achievement to have received green lights all round.

“We have had an extremely busy few months since our formation. MMHA has seen the roll out begin on a massive £30m improvement programme; we are particularly proud of SSHA’s record on sustainability, its emphasis on energy efficiency and the move towards carbon neutral homes, and Total Response has been developing its new identity and new services throughout the county.”
