A new Shropshire Housing Group has been launched this week with a pledge to build 500 new affordable homes across Shropshire over the next five years for people with strong local links.
The Shropshire Housing Group (SHG) went live with the transfer of housing stock from North Shropshire District Council to Meres and Mosses Housing Association (MMHA) – a new social landlord which takes over responsibility for more than 2,300 properties from the District Council.
At the same time South Shropshire Housing Association, which has been established for around 17 years, joined SHG. Between them the two Housing Associations will manage almost 4.,500 homes in Shropshire.
Total Response Limited, a property company which will carry out maintenance and repairs services to the group, became the third member Shropshire Housing Group (SHG).
SHG Chief Executive, Martin Holland said: “The new Group is uniquely placed to support the Government’s drive to remedy the chronic shortage of affordable homes.
“Alongside the development of new homes is a commitment to get closer to tenants and involve them in planning and developing services. We aim to become a leader in developing the homes and services that local people in this largely rural community really need. These are exciting and challenging times and the Shropshire Housing Group welcomes the opportunities which now present themselves.”
Over the next five years the Group aims to:
- Deliver Decent Homes Standards to all its tenants
- Build 500 new affordable homes
- Develop a comprehensive range of support services
- Provide comprehensive maintenance and technical services to all property owners in the area
