SSHA Board of Management
The Board is made up of two Tenant Board Members, one Council Nominee and seven Independent Members.
Their duties include ensuring the Association complies with their values and objectives, approving each year’s accounts and budgets, and appointing or remove the Managing Director.
The Board also ensures the delivery of major repairs and improvements programmes, and is responsible for policy development in the following areas;
- Neighbourhood and Community Services including Rent Policy;
- Maintenance and Estate Management;
- Care and Support;
- Development and Sustainability.
NEVILLE STEPHENS is a member of the Craven Arms Town Council. He has been on the SSHA Board since 1990 and was made Chair of the Board in 2007. Neville has a Masters of Education degree and before joining the Board was a head teacher in a local school. Before his career in Education, he worked in the family building business.
IRENE OVERTON lives in Telford and joined the SSHA Board of Management in March 2006 and is also a member of the Shropshire Housing Board of Management. She has had a wide-ranging career in the public sector, most recently working for the Housing Corporation as a Regulation Manager.
NICK HOLCOMBE lives in Ludlow and joined the SSHA Board of Management in 2000. He is a self employed Company Secretary/Property Consultant and Manager.
COLIN HARRISON has been a Tenant Board Member of the SSHA Board of Management since September 2005 and is also a member of SSHA’s Tenant group, Tass. Colin lives in Worthen and is trained in Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy.
TIM RALPHS lives near Craven Arms and joined the Board as an Independent Member in May 2005 and is also a member of the Shropshire Housing Board of Management. Tim is a Property Consultant specialising in land assembly, architectural and planning matters. He was previously the Principal of a firm of Architects based in the West Midlands.
JOHN STRINGER trained as a Quantity Surveyor and has worked in the construction industry for many years. In 1991 he joined Dudley MBC to manage their 500 strong Property Services Team. In 1997 he was made responsible for all strategic housing issues and the management of 24000 council houses. John lives in Craven Arms and after retiring in 2005 became a Member of the SSHA Board of Management, he is now Chair of the Total Response Board.
DAVID MULLINS has lived in the area since 1989 and has served on the SSHA Board of Management in previous years, but has been a member of the SSHA Board since December 2007. He has a wealth of experience in the housing sector and is a Professor of Housing Policy at the University of Birmingham.
IAN GRAVES lives in Bucknell and has been a member of the SSHA Board of Management since December 2007. He was previously a Board Member of a Housing Association and Credit Union in Bristol. Ian has had a career in education and was most recently a Headteacher in Bristol.

MES WILLIAMSON lives near Bishops Castle and joined the Board in 2010. James is a Chartered Accountant and spent most of his career working for an American multi-national in both the UK and Europe. Latterly James has been a part time Finance Director to several companies in different sectors in the UK. Until September 2010 James was the Chair of a Housing Association Group based in Oxfordshire and Wiltshire.
CLARE RATCLIFF lives near Cleobury Mortimer and joined the Board as a Co-optee in 2010. She has worked as a rural community worker for Community Council of Shropshire, before becoming a partner in the family farm, which led to creating and running a farm based meat business. Having recently retired from farming Clare is fulfilling a long held interest in housing matters by becoming a member of SSHA board.
